The flying Sikh is still alive in our heart and mind. Odisha ( Cuttack) remembers his presence



Milkha Singh, byname known as The Flying Sikh, born October 17, 1935, Lyallpur ( Now Faisalabad , Pakistan) renowned athlete of India with name and fame in Olympic athletics. 

He is the first Indian male to reach the final of an Olympic athletes who placed fourth in the 400 metre race, 1960 Olympic games in Rome.

During the partition of India he struggled a lot for or his living. Who  came to India from Pakistan in 1947.

The first struggle of his life, to work in a restaurant before joining the Indian army.

In India army,  he participated in race and realized his inner abilities as a sprinter.

For international trials in the 200 and 400 metre sprints. He got gold medal at the Asian games as well the commonwealth games.

Another gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian games.

Represented India in the 1956, summer Olympics in Melbourne.

In 1960, Summer Olympics in Rome and in 1964, Summer Olympics in Tokyo again.

After this move, awarded the Padma Shri in India which is India's fourth highest civilian honour.

Remarkable achievements and became a great inspiration in Olympics and uplifted sporting achievements.

Being orphaned, He did not look back to go ahead with the spirit of his innate ability.

Died,18 June 2021 (aged 88) Chandigarh, India 

As he walked in Indian army and created his best image with everlasting motivation that it signifies the importance  of The Flying Sikh.

The most centre of attraction is The Flying Sikh, had also come to Odisha for National games of India.

Represented 1958, Cuttack 200 metre, 1958 Cuttack 400.

It is a proud moment to know about The Flying Sikh who gave a tremendous motivational story to the world.

One more fact of his personal life is, his adopted the 7 year-old-son of Havildar Bikram Singh, who died in the Battle of Tiger Hill. We have great salutation for his son.

After all The Flying Sikh became our national Hero and inspiring personality who you will ever be in our memory for a longer period of history.
