How to express habitual activities in simple present tense?
Well this is a very nice topic. How Simple Present Tense can help us to express regular, repeated action and what we generally don't do or nor done.
Simple present tense is used to talk about an action which is done everyday. It expresses regular actions and never do actions.
On this note, I would like to guide you how you can express your sentences with the help of simple present tense & its structures.
In this Tense, we use subject, present verb and object or complement. Subject+ Verb1( Present Verb)+ O/C. ( Object or Complements)
When we want to express for third person singular (he she it or any singular noun) as a subject we use present verb by adding s, es, & ies according to its rules of spelling.
You can start speaking about your habit and repeated actions. Let's take an example of your daily routine. Here is one of the sample which one can be considered with the structure and be expressed beautifully.
My Daily Routine:
I get up early in the morning and freshen myself up after that I sit for study and get ready for regular classes, after completion of my class, take breakfast at 9:00 a.m. in the morning then restart my coursework along with online classes. It takes around 4 hours after that take lunch at 1 p.m. I generally take a nap after I finish my lunch. Get up again and start to finish some of home works after that go to play ground to have outdoor games with my friends. I usually return home at 6 p.m. in the evening and prepare for evening prayer. After that have some refreshments then open my general knowledge book and sometimes watch current affairs, finish my evening study before 9 p.m. after completion of it, eat dinner with my family then go to bet at 10:00 p.m. night and set alarm before I fall asleep.
Above is my habitual action presented which I recently introduced now we can notice all sentences are from structures which was suggested before. Now the best idea I would like to share with you you can think of your parents' daily routine and start writing on the basis of their daily activities.
This writing skill will help you to speak English better and you can frame many sentences with the help of time expressions let's discuss now some of time expressions.
Time factors for expression:
Daily, everyday, usually, mostly, often, from time to time, many times, many a time, frequently, always, again and again, every now and then, sometimes, sometime, occasionally, frequently, generally, regularly, repeatedly, once in a while, once in a blue moon.
Negative time expressions:
Hardly, rarely, seldom, scarcely, barely, never, never ever, ever never.
All time expressions can be used in habitual actions to express Simple Present Tense. You must remember the negative Time expressions can be used as a grammatical rule.
All negative time expressions are used after the subject and they do not take any negative auxiliary verbs in the sentence otherwise the sentence will be in correct.
For example, I don't hardly represent it. - is incorrect sentence.
The correct form is - I hardly represent it. This means itself is negative in meaning that's why it is recommended not to use negative auxiliary verbs in negative time expressions.
I hope this small idea will really help you to express your English communication better and you can use grammatical sentence effectively.
