Grammatical Words Vs Content Words
In the context of Grammar and language, broadly seen in view of learning parts of speech with two categories.
1- Grammatical Words
2- Content Words
There are 9 words in English, especially mentioned in Parts of Speech. Parts mean words and speech means sentences. The words which are in sentence formation with agreement make Parts of speech convenient to comprehend structures.
The parts of speech: Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Article, Verb, Adverb, Preposition, Conjunction, and Interjection
There are divided into two smart categories to understand the specification of study. 1- Grammatical and 2- Content words.
Grammatical Words: Pronoun, Article, Auxiliary Verbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions.
Content Words: Nouns, Adjective, Main Verbs, Adverbs, Interjection
There are some parts of adverbs which are considered into Grammatical Words. ( up, off, over..etc)
Grammatical words also known as Function words, It creates structures with basic rules of uses. Where as, Content Words create meaning and preset lexical words with information in text and speech.
Grammatical words always help the content to make a complete structure and meaning in language.
Example:
He is a good person who always supports needy people and makes children happy.
Grammatical (Function) words:
He ( pronoun), is ( Auxiliary verb ) a ( Article) who ( Relative pronoun) always ( Adverb of time ) and
( Conjunction)
Content words:
good ( adjective), person ( noun ) supports ( Main verb) needy ( Adjective ) people ( noun) makes ( Main Verb ) children ( Noun) happy ( Adjective )
In the form of English Context and rules, Both Grammatical and Content words go together. Content words are in description form of meaning and function words are a supporting word for meaningful structure to make actual sense of language without flaw.
To enhance the vocabulary, one should learn more content words and to improve grammatical range and accuracy, one should focus on rules of function words and how they are connected to the content words.
