Simple Present Tense has vivid description and narration in news. Most of headlines are written in vividness to give clear images with thoughts in mind. 


When any incidence becomes past and that is presented in present tense of vividness to specify the news as fresh and create a strong feelings about coverage report; there vividness plays a prominent role in "Language Presentation."


Though action has become past and happened in a specific time, the past description is hidden and reported in present form with special effect to human mind by the help of simple present tense. 


If someone wants to improve such writing for mass media or any breaking news then one can use vividness by Simple Present tense and sentence structure.
