It is generally seen most of the spoken and written sentences also bring confusion. What is the difference between "afraid and fear."
Dictionary meaning and in informal communication style afraid means fear moreover it has also different meaning accordingly.

Afraid is used with the help of " don't be afraid it's not don't fear he is afraid that they might lose this opportunity.

 I am not afraid to represent my truth what I actually feel.

Let's focus on I'm afraid = I am sorry.

Here 'I am afraid" represents one idiomatic expressions to give somewhere and used it is used in a phrase it creates the meaning of "I am sorry."
